“Sister Act” is a feel-good musical comedy based on the film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg. When aspiring lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is placed in protective custody in a convent. She is assigned to assist with the choir, and using her disco talent, she transforms the choir into a major attraction. Unfortunately, the newfound popularity of the choir blows her cover. When confronted by the killer, she experiences the power of friendship and sisterhood. The music is energetic and uplifting, the dance opportunities are appealing, and the characters offer fun-filled creative roles.
Director Beth Reidenbach is looking for a large cast that features diverse characters ages 18 and older. Reidenbach is teaming up with music director Ruth Ashwood, assistant music director Ann Marie McIntire, choreographer Mackenzie Lewis, and stage manager Cheryl Solberg.
According to Reidenbach, “This production is full of wonderful roles for women of all ages. While the story line centers on Deloris and the nuns, there are outstanding roles for men as well. Eddie, Curtis, Pablo, TJ, and Joey are all featured in musical numbers. Major female roles include Deloris, Mother Superior, Sister Mary Robert, Sister Mary Patrick, Sister Mary Lazarus, Michelle, and Tina. Dancers will be featured in many of the musical numbers. I encourage everyone with an interest to audition. The show is truly an ensemble production with the company involved in numerous musical numbers and scenes.”
Rehearsals will begin September 4 and will include Sunday through Thursday evenings with an occasional Saturday if needed. Twelve performances will be given November 2-25 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. as well as Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
