Director of Tourism/Marketing

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Tourism Director is responsible for creating and executing the Tourism Strategic Marketing plan and the development of community events for the Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau.  The Director will facilitate a relationship with area Tourism entities including lodging and attractions. 
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Tourism Director reports directly to the President of the Chamber.
 
RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Work with the Board of Directors and President on programs and policies to promote tourism, including the Strategic Plan for Tourism.

  • Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the Tourism budget.

  • Responsible for the Tourism marketing plan promoting Hudson to visitors.

  • Prepare and release Tourism press releases to media.

  • Develop Tourism marketing materials.

  • Maintenance and development of Tourism website.

  • Maintain Events on calendars including the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, Discover Wisconsin, and other Tourism partner sites.

  • Responsible for Tourism social media.

  • Participate in the development of local marketing materials including Visitor Guide and local map.

  • Coordinate the development, updating and printing of Chamber Tourism information including pad maps, kiosk, Calendar of Events and any other Tourism materials as needed.

  • Coordinate tourism partnerships including Menomonie Welcome Center.

  • Coordinate Tourism Committee meetings.

  • Represent the Chamber at the St. Croix Valley Regional Tourism Alliance meetings and others as directed. 

  • Represent Hudson at the Wisconsin Governor’s Council on Tourism.

  • Oversee any Room Tax reporting as required.

  • Report to the City of Hudson on Tourism spending as required. 

  • Maintain Tourism literature racks in the office and building lobby.

  • Assist with monthly Newsletter and submit tourism editorial.

  • Apply for Tourism Information Grants (TIC) biannually and other grants as appropriate.

  • Provide a Tourism educational seminar annually.

  • Attend meetings, seminars, conventions, and workshops to further knowledge, stay informed of the changes in the tourism industry.

  • Support of Chamber events including staffing events as appropriate.

  • Work with the Director of Communications/Programs on the annual Spirit of the St. Croix Art Festival and Christmas Tour of Homes and other events as directed by the President.

  • Ongoing input of organizational flow and process improvement.

  • Assist with recruitment of new members and sponsors for events.

  • Complete projects as designated by the President.

 
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/EXPECTATIONS:
Position requires daily contact, both in person and by telephone with Chamber members, visitors and the general public.  This position requires demonstrated skills in planning, organization and effective implementation of events and strategic plans.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • College degree or equivalent in business administration, the tourism industry or other business related field preferred.

  • Minimum of three years professional experience; experience within the Chamber of Commerce or Tourism Industry preferred

  • Knowledge of the tourism industry

  • Knowledge of the Hudson area

  • Excellent written and communication skills and attention to detail

  • This person will bring to the job enthusiasm and desire to help reach the organizations goals by participating with staff as a team member

  • Ability to work in various programs including Microsoft Office and a Membership Data Base System 

 
Other Requirements

  • This is an exempt, full-time position.  It does require time outside of an 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday schedule

  • Requires some travel both locally and out of town

  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and standard business software

  • Requires sufficient physical capacity to serve indoor and outdoor event activities including ability to lift 35 pounds
