DIRECTOR, COMMUNICATIONS/PROGRAMS

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The role of this position is to ensure that the Chamber is promoted in a professional, positive manner with a consistent message and to ensure that the Chamber provides quality education and networking opportunities for members.  This position is key in ensuring that all members are informed of member programs and benefits, and all promotional materials are current and informative.  This position has direct contact with members and the public by telephone calls, meetings and events.
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Director of Communications/Programs shall report and be responsible to the President.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare the plan for the monthly newsletters and write articles as needed

  • Coordinate networking events including Annual Meeting & Awards Banquet,  Golf Outing, Good Morning Hudson, Leadership Hudson, Simply Social AM/PM, Spring Showcase  

  • Work with the Director of Tourism/Marketing on the annual Spirit of the St. Croix Art Festival and the Christmas Tour of Homes and other events as directed by the President.

  • Develop event budgets

  • Develop annual event advertising plan and budget

  • Prepare and distribute press releases on events

  • Responsible for the event committees which includes meeting notices, agenda’s minutes and other tasks as needed.

  • Develop and update promotional materials as needed

  • Assist with updating and maintaining the Web Site content, Social Media including but not limited to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram

  • Lead the registration for member events and ensure that all necessary handouts are at event

  • Assist with recruitment of new members, sponsors for events and advertising for monthly newsletter and Website

  • Complete any and all tasks as designated by the President

 
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/EXPECTATIONS:
Position requires daily contact, both in person and by telephone with Chamber members, visitors and the general public. This position requires demonstrated skills in planning, organization and effective implementation of communication plans, events and strategic plans.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing/communications, general business or related field of study

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience; experience within the Chamber of Commerce or Association preferred

  • This position requires strong communication skills, excellent written skills, strong organization skills and attention to detail

  • This person will bring to the job enthusiasm and desire to help reach the organizations goals by participating with staff as a team member

  • Computer experience including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, InDesign, Microsoft Excel and a Membership Data Base System

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds

  • College degree or equivalent in business administration or other business related field

  • Organization and communication skills, ability to manage time and volunteers, ability to work to work with members, committees and staff, computer skills and financial management

 
Other Requirements

  • This is an exempt, full-time position.  It does require time outside of an 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday schedule

  • Requires some travel both locally and out of town

  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and standard business software

  • Requires sufficient physical capacity to serve indoor and outdoor events and activities including ability to lift 35 pounds
